A leading sustainable development changing how we live
Welcome to Granton Waterfront, located on the shores of the Firth of Forth, only a stone’s throw away from the bustling city centre of Edinburgh. Over the next 15 years this former industrial area will transform into a thriving new coastal community, where rich heritage is being restored and celebrated in tandem with the development of a sustainable neighbourhood.
At Granton Waterfront, homes, early years and primary school, shops, culture, arts, parks, and coastal living will come together to provide a climate-conscious place which puts people’s health, happiness, and wellbeing at its core.

Building a stronger community
Granton Waterfront is a place for communities to live, work and thrive in a climate conscious way.
Over the next decade, thousands of new net zero homes will be built (at least 35% affordable), as well as business space and retail opportunities. These will be developed alongside arts, culture and leisure space with key services including a school and health centre. Follow us as we build a better connected Granton, with new and improved sustainable transport networks connecting to the city centre and beyond.
Developing coastal green spaces
Set on the shores of the Firth of Forth, Edinburgh’s iconic estuary, we are harnessing the district’s unrivalled location and unique heritage to create vibrant new parks and green space. The Granton Gasholder Park (opening 2025) will be set within the iconic historic structure and include spaces for play and art. The Coastal Park, situated on the shoreline, will provide high-quality landscaped amenity space as well as integrated flood defences.
Creating a greener, fairer economy
We’ll create construction and permanent jobs along with apprenticeships through regenerating Granton. The development will use modern and innovative construction methods. Longer-term, our ambition is to provide high-quality and skilled permanent employment in a variety of growth sectors.
Commercial, cultural and learning space will promote uses by local businesses and entrepreneurs, social enterprises, co-ops and community groups. These community-led enterprises will be supported to ensure that they can recruit locally, improving employment opportunities for those within the area.
